pens, pencils, pencil cases, oh my!

alright, so my kids are working on their in-class test for the third quarter this year (final one too yay!) and this time, it's show and tell. the problem is, most of my kids are lazy, no wait, just 14 homeroom is lazy (they're the `smart` ones too haha). but as my jte says, `it's just a label.`

but during this time (about 3-4 classes) i'm asked to help them translate their japanese into english (which is a really good exercise for me) and in turn i get to learn a few things about each student and have some fun.

so after grading about 10/21 topics on pens, pencils, and pencil cases... my jte says to me after class:

this is a loose translation btw ;P

kurebayashi sensei (this is the nice old jte btw): what the hell was that!?
me: ??
k: did you read half of that garbage? pens, pencils, pencil cases!
m: haha
k: smart class [my ass!], HA! more like complete idiots!
m: ^^;
m: maybe they just like their pens/pencils/pencil cases ;P
k: lazy sacks of...

i actually found some of them worthwhile to read...

i don't think there is anything to describe how amazing hokkaido was... well pictures and some antics. but for now we get antics. why?

cause antics are fun silly.

-on the plane-

susie: omg omg omg! the plane is doing it's spinny wheely thing!!
me: you mean... turning?

-at the snow festival-

me: you know, i still think chinese people look better than japanese people in general.
ryan: dude you can't say that just from sapporo.
r: there are far too many ばば's here...
r: ...
m: !!
r: /realizesweareinafieldofJAPANESEpeople...

-waiting in line for the bathroom-

littlekid: dad it smells. why?
dad: cause it's a bathroom...
l: oh..

and so much more... but i can't remember them. thanks to ryan, doug, and susie. that was seriously one of the best trips of my life.

i can't really argue with this...

alright so inbetween classes i'm usually working/chatting on aim/doing another sudoku/catching up on some sort of paper work:

me: i think it's funny how [japanese writers] make guys who are just going through puberty
m: turn out to be heros of the world ;3
linda: seriously
l: and the main character in 12 kingdoms is even younger i think
m: jebus
m: the only time i can semi-buy it
m: is cloud
m: but even he's 23
m: i'm freaking 23
m: i wanna fly too rinnie ;P
l: go buy yourself a plane ticket
l: then you'll be flying
l: :P

... i think i need to be more specific...

alright so remember when....

alright, so if any of you recall (or can find, i was looking for it, but can't find the post) where i asked the second year students to write a story using 5-7 things of my own creation and pictures that they've drawn... and the most interesting thing that came out of it, was when i asked them to use a curse word.

this, is one of the student's curse words (hiroko)...:

then ms. yamaguchi said,`てめえ、マヂちょうしの、てんじゃねぇよ。サメ食うなんざ100万年早ぇんだよ。このボけ!

hahahahahaha... um... that somewhat translates to... um... i'll get back to you on that one.

mmmm.

/ponder.

February 02, 2006

ok, so this one time at bandcamp...

alright there was ONE (ok, three, but who's counting right?) story i forgot to bring you guys up to date. and this happened in november/december ish.

as a requirement, all teachers must attend a sexual harassment awareness coarse.

did i mention it's all in japanese?

did i mention that they have no words for certain terms in regards to sexual harassment... thus the use of katakana.

did i mention i had to go?

me: /wave
kyoko: /wave back
m: i get to go to a sexual harassment seminar in japanese
m: wheeee
k: niiiiice
m: and here i go ;P
k: woooooooohooooooooooooooooooo

so yeah...

anyhoo so from the 2 hrs i had to spend in there, this is what i got out of it. btw, they put me next to my supervisor so she could `translate` everything for me.

did i mention that all the badwords are in katakana?

and if you don't know what katakana is, then it's basically engrish.

so in the midst of japanese lecturing, i was privelaged to hear the random sexual harassment terms.* (im me if you want to see them.)

so anyways. the next part was where we were given certain situations. you know those normal situations that teachers find themselves with students. for instance, the one where the gym teacher loves watching the girls run so much, he makes them run naked. we've all heard these stories a billion times and so forth. but the fun really came when they asked us to rate them individually on a scale of 1 - 5.

so on the second one, i asked my supervisor (cause it's all in jp) what it meant:

sensei: ah, for this one /skimsit, this one says, if a student is at a computer, and the teacher is sitting really close to her.
me: ah, how close? like this /standsnexttoher, or this /sitsnexttoher.
s: yeah like that.
m: that's not too bad (it's not really...). i'll give it a 2. (1 is not that bad, 5 is full blown law suit).

then the fun part was when we all had to share (with the other teachers) what we rated.

it was 5's across the board.

wait a minute...

m: sensei, why is everone saying it's a 5? this isn't that bad right?
s: /skimsagain. oh i'm sorry. the teacher is sitting next to the student, and the teacher touches her breasts.
m: !!!
s: what?
m: that's ENTIRELY DIFFERENT!
s: yeah i know, why did you rate it a 2?
m: ...

fun times...

no really.

*i mean no offense to anyone, and yes i understand how serious this is, but god i couldn't stop laughing.

finally.

ok back up and running. also, all entries are updated; i read through november and it was fine imo, also i brought the entries to present date and finished cleaning up a few things.

also on a recent note: i haven't checked the blog recently and noticed a bot has apparently spammed the crap out of my comments section. i have deleted all posts (please let me know if i miss any) and banned the ip. they totalled to about 1000 posts /wavesangryfist.

sorry for the slow updates lately. been rather busy/lazy/gone. so here's a quick update on what's going on with me:

monday: go to work, then go to a small ramen shop in a town far away for dinner with friends.
tuesday: go to work, watch my kids do kendo/judo/kyudo, eat dinner, and sleep 10-12 hrs (cause it feels so good...).
wednesday: go to work, come home and play games.
thursday: go to work, watch my kids do kendo/judo/kyudo, hang out with friends.
friday: go to work, then go hang out with friends/jets/etc.
saturday: usually crashed at a friend's place, go onsen-ing, get dinner with friends, then relax and play games.
sunday: running errands/laundry/etc. maybe start taiko soon.

as to my plans to do aikido, it turns out they only meet once a week. and it's 50 bucks a week... so nuts to that!

and for the most part those are my days. up and coming things are...:

this weekend i'm going snowboarding in nagano. doesn't that just sound cool? i'm so god-awful at snowboarding, but man, i just like saying it haha. i'm going snowboarding in nagano!

next weekend i'm off to hokkaido with ryan and susie to see the snow festival.

and that's pretty much all that's going on. having fun in japan, and feeling like i'm finally starting to make use of what's in front of me. hope things are all going well back home.

home economics

haha ok this is from a november entry i never finished.

there was this one time (11/14) where i started cooking with the third years. the project of that day was to make miso soup, but the one with pork meat in it (forgot what it's called). unfortunately, they don7t really make the soup from scratch, and instead they just used prepackaged stuff (looked like fat in a bag.) and then...

student 1: ok jeff, just open the bag.
me: ok /opensthebag.
student 2: now squeeze it out into the tubber ware.
m: ok. /doesit.
student 3: you got some on your fingers! you should lick it off! try it, it's good!
m: ... ok, if you say so. /lick.
m: !!! (imagine eating something sour as all hell) :x <---. bleh!
1: hahahahahaha.
m: ok you guys have miso on your fingers too! are you going to...
1, 2, 3: /washestheirhands.
m: ...

just write `sucker` on me.
