4 hrs away

so in my 1-1 homeroom on thursdays, i have two students with the same name, mao. and of course as i call roll each morning for that class i always end up with two name tags in my hands, and shitty enough for me, it's the two maos.

mao yasue
mao narita

oh what to do?

so after about two weeks or so they started getting peaved that i couldn't remember which one was which (i mean come on... they're both mao so i can't really get that wrong right...?) so they suggested i started calling them by their family names, or 名字(みょうじ).

so this thursday morning i decided to try the family name thing.

except old habits die hard...

and i called her narita空港...

and then she comes up to me after class

and says...

`...not airport.`

i was told i would get a piece of cake...

so my thursday schedule goes something like this:

1st period: nothing
2nd period: oc1
3rd period: nothing
4th period: oc1
5th period: business english
6th period: oc1

and because of sports testing, lunch has been moved from between 4th and 5th to 3rd and 4th.

which means i get a fantastic 3 classes in a row.

awesome.

so here i am, psyching myself up for 3 continuous hours of genkiness as i walk into the english room.

me: so hara sensei, the other teachers and i have found that the best way to do this activity is with a `repeat after me` and then a quick overview of the definitions of the new vocabulary. in addition after we finish that we'll be able to get the first example off on the next activity and then the bell should ring.
hara sensei: sounds great... for tomorrow.
m: thank yo... wait what?
h: oh, because it's sports testing today, there are no first year classes... didn't you get the memo? (he didn't say this, but can't you just see that line there?)
m: ...

but i filed my tps reports...

goto sensei 2

goto sensei and i teach a business english class. to be honest i really like goto sensei, but i have no idea what to teach in business english. and of course it doesn't help that he leaves the entire cirriculum design to me...

so anyways first day back in class was yesterday and he wanted to sell this `language village` program (when he says it it sounds like `langugae bridge`) that he attended for a few days in august. he tells me that he's prepared a report for the kids except his report turns out to be itinerary for the three days he was there.

keep in mind i'm in the back of the class room playing freecell and he's been going on for about 45 minutes on his schedule for said three days:

goto: so today was good day. breakfast 9;00 - 9;30, then private lesson all day, and then we have dinner 6:00 - 7:00. then next is best time, because you can have cigarette and break and drink coffee. it was very good coffee.

10 seconds of silence elapse.

g: might be coloumbian...

hahaha.

well it is if you think about it

i was speaking to goto sensei at lunch a few minutes ago and excused myself really quick to go buy a drink from the vending machines outside. when i got back:

me: wow you ate that really fast.
goto sensei: yes, because i tired.
m: ah i hear ya.
g: yes because it's wednesday.
m: oh?
g: yes, because it is middle of week.
m: aye that's tough.
g: friday is best!
m: yeah, but which is worse though, sunday or monday?
g: hmmm.
m: sunday is bad because we have to work tomorrow, but there is no school.
g: and monday is blue day.
m: aye. sunday to thursday is bad neh, friday and saturday are best!
g: yes, sunday is worst, then monday, thursday is ok, but today i am tired and hungry.
m: /patpat

about five seconds of silence elapse.

g: because it's wednesday.

i can't really argue with that logic haha.
